Around twenty-five thousand homes in Queensland's southeast were left without power on Monday morning after powerful weather events passed over the region, producing wind gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Large Hailstones and Widespread Destruction

Residents reported giant hailstones as large as 7cm in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were working to restore power throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams activated to address the extensive power failures.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, nearly 1,000 residents in Victoria also faced electricity disruptions after Melbourne experienced its most precipitation in over 500 days.

Rescue organizations received over five hundred requests for assistance across the area, primarily for structural issues but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - multiple assistance requests
• Wyndham area - over 175 emergency requests

At one point on Sunday, over 28,000 electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were forecast to persist along large portions of eastern Queensland this next several days as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

The following day was forecast to be the most rainy day, with persistent severe weather risk anticipated across various areas of both regions.

Medical Alert

Public health experts alerted that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.

This caution comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to major medical consequences in the area.
